Minibus Training Scheme
Our minibus training follows the modules as delivered on the MIDAS scheme.
If your organisation's vehicles are accessible i.e. they are equipped with a passenger lift or a ramp, your Driver Assessor/Trainer will need to attend all modules. Otherwise, owners of standard minibuses will need to send a representative on Modules 1, 2 and 4 only. The Driver Assessor/Trainer needs to attend the modules
Module 1
Covers how to assess whether drivers are competent
Topics include:
- Introduction to the scheme
- The role of the Driver Assessor/Trainer
- Planning assessment routes
- Pre-Assessment procedures
- Undertaking a driving assessment
- On-road assessment skills
- Monitoring driving standards
Module 2
Covers training minibus drivers with the skills and information that they need to know when driving a standard
Topics include:
- Training techniques for use in on-road training sessions
- Driving faults - identification and correction
- Reversing and manoeuvring
- Defensive driving
- Health & safety

- Legal requirements for minibus drivers
- Passenger safety
- Child passenger safety
- Personal safety
- Breakdown, accident and emergency procedures
Module 3
Covers training minibus drivers with the additional skills needed if passengers in wheelchairs are carried
Topics include:
- Passenger awareness
- Passenger assistance
- Assisting wheelchair users
- Safe use of passenger lifts and ramps
- Safe use of wheelchair and passenger restraint equipment
- Emergency evacuation procedures
- Legal requirements and code of good practice
Module 4
Includes the presentation and theory assessments, and covers practical arrangements for running drivers initial, and refresher courses.

- Running a group training session
- Presentation skills assessments
- Theory assessments
- Establishing an assessment and training programme
- Framework for assessment and training of drivers
- Refresher training for new DATs
